Matchfit Conditioning: Mindset Program Review

I’ve heard a lot of people are saying that football is 90% mental. They say it’s all about having the right mindset and attitude to survive in this sport. It requires one to be focus and engage with the task in hand. To clear everything out, mentality can consists of many things. From confidence & self talk to overcoming anxiety to visualisation & imagery are all related to mindset element.

I saw there are so many talented players around me, but the one thing that made a difference is their mindset. The way they think about the game. Some players can’t even control their mind which hinder the potential of them to perform at their peak.

This also applies to professional players who was told that they’re not good enough to play in certain level i.e. Mohammed Salah at Chelsea – now played a crucial role with Liverpool, but managed to overcome that challenge and got further than they were before.

I’m going to review a product from MatchFit Conditioning, which is their mindset program. After a bit of digging, I found that it has been proven to help players overcome their psychological side of their game.

Why I bought the program

I recently bought the MatchFit Conditioning mindset program this summer 2021, reason being I was at the low period of my career where I was supposed to signed with a third division team (a step up for myself), but it was crushed into pieces due to my immigration status. I’ve lost my motivation to train. I was questioning myself and my purpose of continuing football. To top it off I also felt anxious about what’s going to happen next in my career.

Soon after, I came across to an email which was sent from Match Conditioning about this mindset program. Not going to lie, I was intrigued to give it a go and I did. I saw it as an investment on myself since I know I want to achieve the highest possible level I can get. And I realised one aspect in my game that I’ve been neglecting is my mentality for the game.

My experience

The process is very straightforward, as soon as I purchased the program, they sent me a PDF file which I downloaded straight away. The program contains 29 pages. It begins with explaining why having the right mentality will get you further in football and maximise your potential on the pitch. It gives you practical and day to day example and experience that might be encountered for the majority of players when facing obstacles or challenges. This program is for either professional level players, semi-pros and even amateurs. I, myself, still playing in an amateur level, hence I really believe this is worth my investment and would help me to get that pro level in the future.

Diving into the program

The program contains 7 part of units which are goal setting & perfectionism; nerves, anxiety & motivation; concentration, focus & inconsistency; confidence & mental toughness; visualization, mental imagery & relaxation; self control & self-talk; attitude & competitiveness.

The main content is delivered through a short and sharp videos and/or audios where I can easily access through Vimeo. I would recommend you to take notes of what they talk about, because almost everything they said are absolutely gem. On top of that, they give you printouts that encourages you to think and change your mindset towards challenges you may face. Not to worry as they give filled printouts which act as an example so that you know how to fill these “workbook exercises”.

A little snippet of what’s inside

You may want to question where do these resources and contents come from. Fear not, they came through playing and coaching experience, study and further reading that the authors have gone through during their career. So, I believe it has been tested on the field and it worked. I’m 100% sure I was investing in the right stuff not on a silly unbeneficial product that wouldn’t give any results.

They also encourage you to listen to the content multiple times a week so the messages would stick in your brain. So, every time you are exposed to a similar situation you know how to overcome it. To make that even easier, they pointed out which part you should listen to and the scheduling of the session.

Verdict

I would honestly say that this is a quality program which is worth having. The content is laid out nicely and very accessible. What I love about having this program is you won’t be easily distracted like you would when you go to YouTube looking for motivation videos/confidence boost. Trust me, it would requires focus and engagement to actually take on this program. It’s the opposite of just watching and/or listening for entertainment.

I’m almost halfway finishing the program. From what I received so far, the saying of football is about the mental game is kind of true. It all starts with the mind, a well conditioned mind would produce better results. Think about anytime when you are not happy, but you need to perform. I bet you can’t focus on your performance, you would always distracted with what bothers you.

In closing, I just want to say you also need to take care of your mind as well if you want to perform in a high level. Because that’s all where it starts. Mind first, then the body. Keep ballin’!
