Training One Skill vs Training Multiple Skills Each Day

Have you ever experience confusing to choose whether to train this skill alone or combining it with other skill? Probably, you are designing and planning your own football training session and stuck with this notion. I know it is not an easy task to design your own football training program. Because you want to train all those aspects needed in order to improve yet you want it to be sharp and quick.

Bear in mind, there is no definitive answer that one of this method is better than the other one. Both have their own pros and cons yet equally beneficial to aid your development.

Training One Skill

This method helps you to focus on one specific aspect in place i.e. dribbling or shooting or passing, etc. Let’s say you want to improve your dribbling skills in X day, you will more likely to focus mainly on dribbling drills.

For instance, you can start with tight spaces dribbling then progress to long-range dribbling drills. Also, you can cover all the aspect of dribbling on that day i.e. using different parts of the foot and various moves. On the contrary, this kind of training might be boring for certain players. They might need to incorporate different aspects of the game to give variety to the training session.

Training Multiple Skills

As I said in the last sentence, this type of training gives variety to the training regimen, which able to prevent boredom. Basically, you can combine dribbling drills with a pass or a shot in the end. It delivers more consistency although it might not cover all the aspect of that certain skill.

Imagine if you do combine dribbling with passing or shooting or crossing every single day. You definitely improve those aspects, however, you might not be able to cover all aspect of that one skill i.e. shooting with laces or outside of the foot, etc.

The point is both of them definitely going to help you to improve your game. You should mix them up based on your schedule availability and your own preference. At the end of the day, the training you put in is all that matters. It is 100 times better than just sitting on a couch watching TV. Ballers don’t procrastinate or make excuses, they take action! Hope you guys stay safe and healthy in this unique moment.
